Lentil and Split Pea with Vegetables Soup

Pack in your muscle building protein in a delicious cruelty free way with this lentil and split pea soup.

1 cup lentils (green lentils, red, or regular)

1/2 cup green split peas

8-10 cups of water 8 * I do not count I just eye ball to make enough for my soup

1 packet of Sazon Goya con Azafran (do not be alarmed by the pictures of fish and shrimp on the box. The contents are vegan and the pictures are just to give you an idea of what types of dishes the seasoning is compatible with). ** if you are trying to cut down sodium you might want to skip this seasoning. I use it sparingly  for special dishes and occasions. Without this you can still get a nice kick by adding paprika and black pepper.

Tumeric, ground cummin, garlic powder, salt, and Italian seasoning herbs to taste.

2 chopped carrots

1 chopped Mexican white squash  (regular zuchinni or yellow sqash is ok too. I really like the white squash flavor for this soup)

1 chopped roma tomato

Rinse the lentils and peas in a strainer until water runs clear. DO NOT use tap water! Use filtered water always to avoid fluoride. Combine water, seasonings, lentils / peas in a soup pan.  Place over medium heat and bring to a boil.

Add all veggies, and set the flame to low. Cover and let simmer for 20-25 minutes untill lentils and peas are tender.

Enjoy with tasty corn tortillas. I personally love the raw ones pictured below. They taste home made and have no preservatives.
